Earning the Voter’s Trust – The Presidential Debate Edition

According the United States media a debate between President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney was scheduled to happen last night from Hofstra University. Somebody wake me up when they actually begin to debate please.

What happened last night was a good old fashioned male pissing match where both candidates spent most of their time attacking the other candidate’s record or using scare tactics and class warfare in order to gain political points for each of their prospective political base. Most of what happened last night did nothing to earn my trust.

As an independent voter and somebody who is clearly a moderate in all things political, social and economic – if found last night’s boxing match between Obama and Romney quite offensive and proved to me that the choice this year for who to vote for to become the leader of the Free World is nothing except a decision between the South Park ‘Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich’.

The question that all American’s will have the choice to decide on November 6^th is who do you trust to lead our country out of the current economic mess we are struggling with. Here are some things you should consider after watching last night’s debate:

The incumbent President of the United States; Barack Obama’s main rational for giving him 4-more years in office is that he ‘inherited’ a giant political mess from previous President George W. Bush’s administration and it was Bush’s and the Republican-led Congress’ fault that he couldn’t improve the nation’s economy in the past four years. He also believes that you should vote for him thanks in part to him Killing Osama Bin Laden – yeah, the President didn’t kill him – Seal team 6 did.

The person who wants to be the President of the United States – Gov. and Businessman Mitt Romney’s main platform for becoming the President is that Mr. Obama had four years to improve the nation – and it’s in worse shape than it was before. He also states that if elected, he has the ‘on hands’ experience to create jobs, stimulate an economy and get back to American value system which has been lacking in recent years – but just quite hasn’t been able to tell us exactly how he is going to get us to the ‘economic promise land’.

So – who do you TRUST?

Somebody who has a vision of what he believes is a perfect society but simply doesn’t know how to get there or somebody who knows how to get there and fix problems but doesn’t understand today’s political system in Washington DC?

This is similar to the current problems that plague the SSL Certificate industry and the trust that several products provide each user. On one hand, many SSL Certificate and Internet Virus Protection programs are built to work effectively under today’s internet browsers and viruses that attack our computers every second. But, many of them don’t have a proven solution as to how they will ensure each program is effective for fixing tomorrows increasing technology and problems which are destined to occur.

Simply put, building trust is all about choosing a candidate or a company who both has a vision for the future but also has practical solutions to fix today’s problems. When you cast your vote in November, keep that in mind when making your choice to be the President of this great nation.   

Comparing Liam Neeson to SSL Security Software

There was a rumor out once that Irish born actor Liam Neeson once made a mistake and was not able to save the day – ONCE. The star of the new action thriller TAKEN 2 has historically played roles in movies which have created a persona similar to Chuck Norris. I say similar only due to the fact that if Chuck Norris knew I was making a true comparison – he’d find me and round-house kicks me in the face. 

But the characters Liam portrayed in recent years lend one to believe that he could seriously get stuff done. Case in point, in the past 10 years Liam Neeson has:

• Been the Greek god Zeus in the remake of Clash of the Titans
• Was the leader of the League of Shadows who trained Batman the Dark Knight and Super-Evil dude Bane
• Found some kid named Anakin Skywalker and began his training to become the most powerful Jedi in Star Wars – maybe regretted that one
• Was Hannibal Smith the leader of The A-Team and could plan any attack
• Saved the lives of thousands of Jewish prisoners in the movie Schindler’s List
• And even was a Lion – Aslan in the Chronicles of Narnia movie series

Talk about an impressive resume. And in the new movie, Taken 2, he reprises his role as a former superspy operative who had his daughter kidnapped. That was a bad mistake for the bad guys, but good news for his daughter. 

I kind of wonder sometimes if the people who design SSL Security Software ever thought of using the character’s Liam Neeson plays in movies as a template to design effective software to protect computer users from being hijacked.

Seems legit – right?

Bottom line, although the characters that Liam Neeson plays in movies are fictional, the persona he has creates the perception that when you’re in trouble, and need to have somebody protect you – those guys pretty much get the job done right. With new SSL Security programs on the market today, many of these same protection attributes are realistic in order to ensure every computer user who has a Liam Neeson-type protective shield covering them is definitely in good shape.
